Delta Lake
Kate Skinner’s “Delta Lake” is a soulful and modern harmonic journey inspired by a glacial lake nestled in the Tetons that can only be accessed by a hidden trail. The piece emulates the steep climb up to the lake, building tension and suspense with beautiful chords, a rising bass line, and rhythmic off-beats.
Each section of the band has some juicy moments to get to show off their stuff, and the saxophones have a melodically engaging soli. Originally composed for the University of Idaho Jazz Band II, this piece is an obtainable challenge for a high school ensemble with a strong lead trumpeter, and a great programming for college ensembles.
