Jenna Cave

Jenna Cave (b.1984) is an Australian composer, arranger, bandleader, vocalist and saxophonist. Cave completed a BMus (jazz) with first class Honors at the Australian National University (2006) specializing in jazz arranging and composition, and a Master of Music (composition) at the Sydney Conservatorium (2010) receiving academic prizes and scholarships at both institutions. She directed the 19-piece Divergence Jazz Orchestra in Sydney as resident composer and arranger from 2012 to 2023, releasing three critically acclaimed albums as leader: Shadows and Light (2023), Fake it Until You Make It (2016) and The Opening Statement (2013). In 2024 she released her sextet album, Grief, Hope, Love; a suite of 6 songs featuring acclaimed Australian vocalist Kristin Berardi. The album was commissioned and produced by ABC Jazz.
Cave has been commissioned by international jazz festivals, ensembles, individuals, universities and schools. Past commission highlights include the work Sleep, In My Arms (2019) for reeds specialist Paul Cutlan’s String Project album Living, and two works for the 2016 Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival for 10-piece ensemble featuring saxophonist Sandy Evans. Cave has arranged works on commission for Nadje Noorhuis, the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and children’s band The Sticker Club. Cave was awarded full composer representation with the Australian Music Centre in 2015, and was nominated for the prestigious Freedman Fellowship (jazz) in 2019. In 2024/2025 she has been focusing on songwriting and performing as a vocalist with her Heart Songs project.
